Green Workforce Academy

A program introduced by Ecotrust provides an opportunity for Black, Brown and Indigenous adults to learn about jobs in the Green Economy.

Green Workforce Academy is a 5 week training opportunity for Black, Brown,  Indigenous and other adults of color interested in jobs in the green economy.

For the last several years, we have put together a curriculum for these cohorts to introduce  sustainable forestry, our work connecting Good Wood to the built environment, and why it’s important.  We open a dialogue about the opportunities in the many facets of the sustainable wood supply chain, talk about the key species that grow here and share the environmental story of each.  We also include lessons on how lumber and wood products are measured, and run through applied math exercises for square foot, lineal foot and board foot conversions.  The stop at our shop is one of several set up throughout Portland to learn about unique jobs in the industry.

When these  groups of bright, engaged, and curious adults graduate from the program,  their next step is finding meaningful work. If your company is hiring and looking to take action on your Diversity, Equity & Inclusion goals, Green Workforce Academy is a great place to start. This program, introduced by Ecotrust in 2018, is how we met & hired our inside sales rep- Meleah Tias, who is an incredible addition to our team.

Ecotrust has a mission we admire:  To inspire fresh thinking that creates economic opportunity, social equity, and environmental well-being.

More of that please.
